In every StarCraft game, a player has to start from the most basic units until they get to a higher stage in the game, where they can use more advanced technology and more powerful units. It is imperative, however, to be able to determine what would be the first things you want to do in order to get to a higher pace of the game. This Strategic concept is called the Build Orders.
Build Orders are the way in which you chronologically construct your structures. Being able to construct your
structures chronologically allows you to place structures at strategic points and build unit producers for an initial offensive strategy. Build order also determines how you plan to go up higher on the technology tree, where more offensive and defensives strategies await. This concept is very important as a player cannot just build what he can build or what is available. There are specific strategies in which a player must follow to be able to employ it and build orders determine how will your efficiently and effectively in executing your strategy.
What specific build orders to be used can be determined by scouting your enemy lines first. Knowing what your enemy is up to will let you prepare for their imminent strategies. Determining this will now mold your build orders to counter their offensive and to expose weak points. You can also have a build order that is not designed to counter enemy offensives. You can use build orders to launch your attacks swiftly while catching your enemy off-guard. This is very risky however but can be very effective if you can time it perfectly; which now brings us to the next aspect which is Timing.
Timing is the time in any game where something epic will happen in a game. It is also the ability to execute strategies at the opportune moment. Knowing when your opponent is most vulnerable is crucial in orchestrating your offensives and crushing your foes utterly. This strategy is called "Timing Attack". Knowing the opportune moment to strike requires you to know your enemy's movements. Again, like many strategies in the game, scouting is very important in this. Scouting enemy lines exposes their current strengths and their weaknesses. As many strategies also implement, striking them at their weak spots and timing your attacks at moments where they least expect it is vital.
Polishing is a vital part in every strategy. A strategy implemented on their first stages is often flawed and lacking in support. Polishing is defined as implementing your strategies to go in smoothly by fortifying it with the essential parts that makes the strategy perfect. This may happen on a single game if given a chance or to many games you have played. Polishing is basically improving your already great strategy and be able to add more potency on it.
Organizing your build orders and timing your attacks are essential while polishing it on the long term allows you to prepare better for future battles. These three concepts are key aspects to easily move up the ranks of the StarCraft universe.
